With the rapid development of the wireless charging market in the past few years, more and more applications have added wireless charging to take advantage of it. To help designers overcome the challenges posed by modern wireless charging and meet key application requirements, Infineon Technologies has released the WLC1115 transmitter controller IC, the first in a new WLC family of controllers that uses inductive wireless charging technology. In addition, Infineon also provides a WLC1115-based and Qi v1.3.2 certified MP A11 wireless charging transmitter reference design solution, which can be used in smartphones, smart speakers, docking stations, monitor stands, and industrial accessories or medical equipment accessories, etc. various fields.

Ajay Srikrishna, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Wired Connectivity Solutions Product Line at Infineon Technologies, said, “Many consumer and industrial applications require wireless charging solutions that comply with the latest Qi standard protocol, for which the WLC1115 transmitter controller and A companion wireless charging reference design is ideal. As inductive wireless charging standards continue to evolve, our programmable solutions will provide greater flexibility to support higher power and allow OEMs to implement Differentiating functions while complying with the Qi standard protocol.”

The Infineon WLC1115 is a highly integrated, Qi standard compliant and fully configurable 15 W transmitter controller IC for wireless charging solutions. It integrates a USB-PD/PPS receiver chip, DC/DC controller, DC/DC gate driver, full-bridge inverter, sensing peripherals, and configurable flash memory. The WLC1115 supports a large input voltage range from 4.5 V to 24 V, and ASK demodulation based on multipath voltage and current. In addition, the controller not only carries an integrated programmable high-side current sense amplifier, but also implements foreign object detection (FOD) based on Q factor, resonant frequency and power loss. It also has comprehensive programmable protection features including UVLO, OVP, OCP and OTP.

The WLC1115-based Extended Power Profile (EPP) compliant transmitter solution features OPTIGA Trust Charge and meets the certification requirements specified in the Qi v1.3.2 standard. Paired with Infineon's very comprehensive USB-C charger portfolio and broad MOSFET portfolio, the WLC1115 solution provides a complete product portfolio to help meet stringent regulatory and compliance requirements. In addition, it comes with software tools to support Qi v1.3.2 standard and proprietary charging protocol.
