Linear Technology Corporation has announced the LT8330, a current-mode, 2MHz step-up DC-DC converter with an internal 1A, 60V switch. It operates from an input voltage range of 3V to 40V, making it ideal for applications with input power ranging from single-cell lithium-ion batteries to automotive inputs. The LT8330 can be configured as a boost, SEPIC or inverting converter. It utilizes a fixed 2MHz switching frequency, enabling designers to minimize the size of external components and avoid using critical frequency bands such as AM radio. Burst mode operation reduces quiescent current to 6μA while maintaining output ripple below 15mVP-P. The company said that combining a 3mm x 2mm DFN or TSOT-23 package with a slim external package would ensure a very compact footprint while minimizing solution costs. The LT8330's 330mohm switch has efficiencies as high as 90%. Accurate 1.6V EN / UVLO pin thresholds can be programmed for undervoltage lockout (UVLO) for best system performance. A single feedback pin can program positive or negative output voltage. Other features include internal compensation, soft start, frequency foldback and thermal shutdown protection. The LT8330EDD is available in a 3mm x 2mm DFN-8 package, while the LT8330ES6 is available in a TSOT-23 package. Industrial temperature (-40C to 125C) versions LT8330IDD and LT8330IS6 are also available, as well as high temperature (-40C to 150C) versions LT8330HDD and LT8330HS6.
