Low cost instrument amplifier with wide supply range

The AD8226 is a low-cost, wide-supply instrument amplifier that requires only an external resistor to set the gain between 1 and 1000. It is designed to work with a variety of signal voltages. The wide input range and rail-to-rail output allow signals to take full advantage of the supply rail. Since the input range also includes lower than negative power capacity, small signals near the ground can be amplified without the need for a dual power supply.

Simplified Schematic

The operating power supply range of the AD8226 is ± 1.35V to ± 18V (dual power supply) and 2.2V to 36v(single power supply). The robust AD8226 input is designed to connect to real-world sensors. In addition to its wide operating range, it can also handle voltages beyond the guide rail. For example, when using a ±5v power supply, the component is guaranteed to withstand ±35v at the input without damage. Minimum and maximum input bias currents are specified to facilitate open line detection.

The AD8226 is ideal for multi-channel, space-constrained industrial applications. Unlike other low-cost, low-power instrumentation amplifiers, the AD8226 has a minimum gain of 1 and can easily handle ±10 V signals. With its MSOP package and 125°C temperature rating, the amplifier thrives in a tightly packed, zero-airflow design.

The AD8226 comes in an 8-pin MSOP and SOIC package that is fully suited for operations from −40°C to +125°C. For devices similar in package and performance to the AD8226, but with gain Settings ranging from 5 to 1000, consider using the AD8227.
