Murata has released its 782100 series transformers, which were created specifically for use with Peregrine (pSemi) PE22100 push-pull DC-DC converter driver ICs. The combination of driver IC and transformer makes it possible to simply implement an isolated DC-DC converter rated up to 1W. This converter is typically used to power the secondary side of an isolated data interface such as RS232, RS485 or CAN bus. Surface-mount (SM) and through-hole (DIL) versions of transformers are available in industry-standard packages. The SM type includes variants for 3.3V / 5V or 5V / 5V input / output, while the DIL type has 3.3V / 3.3V or 5V / 3.3V input / output. After the external rectifier diode drops, each output voltage meets the requirements. All transformer models have a 4kVDC isolation rating, a tightly controlled toroidal structure, high efficiency, tight magnetic coupling, and low EMI. The operating temperature range is -40C to + 85C, and the surface mount type has a moisture sensitivity level of MSL1, so no special storage method is required. The SM transformer meets the reflow soldering requirements of J-STD-020, with a peak temperature of 245C and a maximum time of 100 seconds above liquid (217C), making it compatible with common reflow systems. The through-hole variant is suitable for wave soldering at a peak temperature of 260 ° C for 10 seconds. All types have a matte tin finish. The combination of transformer and pSemi IC is used as an isolated data interface in analog and digital I / O cards for data acquisition and instrumentation. Rectifier diodes and capacitors are necessary to achieve the complete DC-DC converter function, and their external dimensions are as low as 7mm. pSemi offers an evaluation kit with 782100 transformers. Murata Power Solutions product manager Andrea Polti said: "The cooperation between Murata Power Solutions and pSemi has developed these transformers, which means that users do not need to limit a separate magnetic source when using the Peregrine IC, saving time and money."
